I'm both saddened and relieved that the experiment is coming to an end. Most of all I want to thank the loyal readers who stuck with me every day for two months. Your words of kind encouragement really made it a lot less work than it could have been.

This may not be the last of Bread, just the last for right now. I've posted a lengthy postmortem on my main blog here.

What is Bread?

What do I have planned for Bread, the comic? I can't go into too many details. (Honestly, I can't. I don't know them!) But Bread is about the regular adventures of bready baked goods and a muffin.

I have a few characters slightly developed. There's Toast, a lightly toasted piece of white bread who tends to get along with everyone. Then there's Biscuit who likes anything as long as its dangerous or exciting. Muffin likes pretty things and hates non-pretty things. "Nick" Pumpernickel is the quiet philosopher of the group, and Chris Croissant never has a problem speaking his mind.

That's all I'm going to say for now. We'll see what happens.

The 60 Comics in 60 Days Project

Starting August 1st and for 60 days afterward (if all goes well) I'll be doing a daily comic. It's a challenge in the spirit of National Novel Writing Month.

Why? Why not! Just like NaNoWriMo, the point is just to do it, to see what happens! I don't predict that great enduring art will come from this. It's the challenge of doing it, and the joy and inspiration that comes from doing something creative. Creating something new every day is incredibly rewarding and energizing. And it's also a good way to appreciate those guys who write comics every day for a living and have been doing it for years. And not just the big guys like Dilbert, but the little guys who aren't in your newspaper.

What are the rules:
1) Produce a comic a day every day for 60 days and post it where it can be read by the public. You can draw more than one a day if you feel productive, but you have a new one to post every day.

2) The comics can be in any format, any number of panels, any size, and in any medium. They can be of any subject, or genre. They can be serious or silly, full color or black and white, digital or not. You can follow a newspaper's traditional 3 panel daily and long Sunday format, or make it freeform. You can tell a long form story or have a different plot every day. All you need to do is tell a story every day with drawings.

3) An artist and a writer can collaborate, but everything must be original. Don't draw last week's Peanut's strip with different characters. Don't illustrate 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. It must be original characters doing original things.

I have never taken a drawing class in my life. (Well, maybe there was a section on hand-turkeys in 3rd grade art class, but besides that nothing.) So if I can do it, you can too!
